Serving NCCA’s K-12 statewide population requires experience, knowledge, and understanding of our students and their family's needs. We are very fortunate to have an experienced, dedicated team of Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) providing a continuum of services.

Counselors

NCCA is committed to providing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes academic, career, and personal/ social development. School counselors play an essential role in the education of the whole child and in promoting a positive school culture. Counselors work collaboratively with students, parents and school staff to foster a productive learning environment and support the growth of all students enrolled at NCCA. This includes implementing our social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, Second Step, in grades K-8.

Social Workers

School social workers bring unique knowledge and skills to NCCA and are an integral part of the student services team. NCCA social workers provide a link between home, school, and community by providing direct and indirect services to students, families and school personnel. They advocate, promote, and support students' academic success by eliminating barriers that may impact student learning.

Psychologists

School psychology is a specialized area within the field of psychology that includes advanced training in child

development, mental health, learning, and behavior. School psychologists at NCCA are vital members of the student support team and EC department and apply strategies, including counseling and assessment, to help children and adolescents succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

Janice Harris

Hello! My name is Janice Harris and I am the K-2nd grade School Counselor. It is a pleasure to support students’ academic, social, emotional and future development. I am committed to promoting the well-being and success of all students.

I am from Cleveland, Ohio and I came to North Carolina to attend college. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from North Carolina Central University. This is my 18th year as a School Counselor and my 7th year with NCCA. I have experience in early, elementary, middle and high school education.

I am married and I love spending time with my husband who is also my friend. When I am not assisting parents and students, I enjoy traveling and shopping. Occasionally I enjoy relaxing and watching my favorite TV shows.

I look forward to an outstanding school year!
